History
of An
Old Reed Warbler. F088114
In
1998 whilst looking through history of recently retrapped Reed Warblers
the ring number F088114 was spotted. It was obvious that this Reed Warbler was
likely to have been ringed many years ago and it was quickly established that
the bird was first captured in 1989.
Using the
BRING Retrap History Program each handling of the bird from then until the
current date (1999) was established and is reproduced below. The bird has been
captured at least once in each year and hopefully it will survive until the
millennium and perhaps set a longevity record.

In 1999 we were using the BRING computer data system which was not
capable of handling very large files so records like this were not easy to
pickup.
Since 2001
we have been using the IPMR database program which
eventually will hold all the CVRS
records. We have so far inputted some 138,000
records. This number includes all
records since 1991, plus all Reed and Sedge Warbler
and all birds ringed using C size ring records since ringing began in 1963 s. So searches
are quicker, but you
still have to look!
The
same exercise usng IPMR (results below) took 30 seconds!

Since 2001, unfortunately, as of 22 May 2005, we have not seen it again.
The Chew IPMR database, when all outstanding records ,estimated at some
20,000 new birds plus 6,000 retraps, have been entered, will be a fantastic data set.
Any Volunteers?
